Things Heat Up At Betty Dangers

When we were first toying around with the idea of starting our Sunday adventures Betty Danger’s Country Club was on the top of our list. Come-on, it is a restaurant with a mini-golf course and a ferris-wheel.  Of course we needed to check this out.  So we set the date for brunch and eagerly awaited for it to arrive.

When the date arrived it turned out to be one of the hottest days of the summer.  We didn’t let that get in our way though, and made our way to the ferris-wheel in Northeast Minneapolis.  The ferris-wheel was the first thing we noticed of the brightly colored restaurant.  The next thing we noticed was the less than ample parking, luckily I noticed a spot opening up and was able to park in the small parking lot adjacent to the restaurant.  My sister, who was following us was not so lucky and had to park on the street blocks away.

While we were waiting for my sister and her boyfriend to arrive from their parking spot we scoped out the mini-golf course from behind a wrought iron fence.  It was decorated with whimsical items such as multiple horse statues and large apple.  The course itself did not appear to be anything special, but we planned on trying it out after brunch anyways.  Once they arrived we headed to a pink and green tartan shack to buy tickets for the ferris-wheel.

Tickets for the ferris-wheel include a drink and you can also purchase appetizers.  After receiving our tickets and ordering the appetizers we made our to the bar to get our drinks.  I think I got a lemonade or something like it.  I don’t remember what the others had.  Probably not that important anyways.  After procuring our drinks we made our way to the loading zone where we received basic carny type instructions on how to ride a ferris-wheel.  We agreed to follow the rules and got on.

The wheel went around a few times and we took a few pictures.  20150712_133856

Sometime later they gave us our appetizers.

The appetizers were good but nothing too special.

Once off the ferris-wheel we scoped out a table on the patio.  This was not a easy task.  The place was quickly filling up with colorful people.  Apparently the Color Run, a race where they spray you with paint as you are running. Anyways it had just finished up not to far away from the restaurant and now the finishers were making their way to Betty’s for an after race meal.  While the task was not an easy one we made do and found a table.  But soon after we ordered we found out that this table was not the table for us.

Remember earlier, I mentioned that it was one of the hottest days of the summer.  Yeah, well it turns out the sitting at a table without any form of shade from the intense heat the sun was doling out does not make for pleasant dining experience. So we asked to move.  The waitress was happy to accommodate our request and went to set up a table for us in the air conditioned inside.  But we found a better table by a fountain in their outdoor room. I’m not sure if that’s what they call it, it is a room with open garage doors and no AC.  So an “outdoor room”.  We seated ourselves and waited for our waitress to come back.

She found us and we informed her we were going to sit at the table we found.  Shortly after our food came.  It was good food. 20150712_14544520150712_145439

We ate and Mike decided that he needed to heat things back up.

We left once we finished eating and never did get to the mini-golf.  It was just too hot and no one felt like forking over more money just hit a golf ball around a ho-hum course in the heat.

On the way home we stopped at Surly Brewing Company. Took the tour and a bunch of drink coasters.  It was a good time had by all, well except Kelly and Perry, they just went straight home and missed the tour.   But still it was fun.

It was an adventure and that is what we set out to have.

Secrets and Blucys

Breakfast Blucy With Onion Rings

So….Last spring around Easter we decided to get out once a month on a Sunday and write about our adventures.  So far we have the going out part down but the writing part has been lagging.  Our first adventure was a trip to The Blue Door Longfellow in Minneapolis, over three months ago.

The Blue Door is hidden in the middle of the Longfellow neighborhood in a unassuming building.  The type of building you see dotted in residential areas through out the country.  Whether it is a neighborhood grocer, pub, dry cleaner, or salon, they all seem to look the same. Inside this  particular building The Blue Door is busy turning out Blucys.   A burger made with various ingredients  stuffed between two beef patties, kinda like a up-scale Juicy Lucy.   While a Juicy Lucy is a burger stuffed with  american cheese, the original Blucy is stuffed with blue cheese and garlic.  But wait there is more, there are multiple creative variations of the Blucy, each with differing kinds of cheese and ingredients stuffed inside.

Since it has been over three months I don’t remember what Blucys we all ordered.  I do know I had a Breakfast Blucy. If I remember right it was stuffed with american cheese and maple syrup and was topped with bacon and an egg.  Even though I don’t remember the food everyone else ordered, I do recall that we all enjoyed it.   I could go on about The Blue Door, but I don’t want to.

I’m tired and I want to post this.  But before I go, let’s talk about secrets.  During this outing a few family secrets were outed.  Now being it was three months ago I don’t remember all that was divulged.   I also don’t believe it is necessary for me to divulge what I do remember.  I do want to make the following point though.

Stick with me here..I know I’m tired and will probably read this in the morning and wonder “what in world”…  When the waitress brings out a Blucy to the table it looks like a normal burger for the most part.  But there is a secret hidden in the middle and it is only a matter of time before I bite into it and uncover the secret.  Now if I read the menu I should have an idea of what secret the Blucy is hiding, but until I bite into the Blucy (and I will bite and find out eventually) only the chef really knows whats inside.  He created the Blucy,  he knows exactly what is in there.  There are no secrets between the Blucy and the creator.

So, yeah ..I’m tired, remember..
